| "My painting aim is to combine the abstract design, which is necessary to lasting visual satisfaction, with the natural forms of nature, hoping to give others some of the pleasure and excitement I continually experience in landscape. I enjoy the wild and semi-wild landscapes of northern Minnesota and the hills and fields of our own area. My daughters farm in the western Wisconsin is a delight of hills, trees, fields, and skies. I have a need to be in the landscape and feel it, as well as look at it. Weve camped, backpacked, hiked and canoed in the Boundary Waters area and elsewhere. I have a sort of ache for what is over the hill or around the bend. I like the 8th century poets words: That art is best which to the souls range gives no bound, Something besides the form, Something beyond the sound. Li Po Something to reach for." Faith was born in St. Paul and currently lives there with her husband. She attended a commercial art school in Chicago and enjoyed many exhibits at the Chicago Art Institute. She was especially interested in the paintings of George Inness and Winslow Homer. She then studied at Wheaton College and began to illustrate for nursery books and church materials. After she married, she had five children and continued painting classes whenever possible. She began exhibiting her paintings in 1964. Faith has won several awards in show including the Minnesota State Fair Art Show and the Northern Lights Show. |
