| Peter Ringheim is a sculptor of bronze and steel. He is inspired by petroglyphs, Native American and ancient symbols of the body and its objects, mythology and animals. "I see a shape and wonder if I could make it out of steel." Ringheims act of creation takes place when he takes the physically and symbolically hard substance of steel and makes it malleable in order to form shapes that are comfortable to people. Simple comfort, pleasure, and wonder to the eye and mind are his aims. To produce these effects, he uses different techniques to create a variety of textures and colored patinas on his objects. Ringheim is largely self-taught, but studied formally at several schools including the University of Minnesota. He resides outside of Hayward, Wisconsin. Ringheim currently shows his work in Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, and Chicago. |
